I can't stop sports betting. What app should I use? Nine apps compared (October 2026)

If you are typing "I can't stop sports betting, what app should I use?" into a search box, the useful answer has three parts: an app that makes the sportsbooks hard to open, a routine that makes the next hour easier to get through, and two things no app can do for you — enrolling in self-exclusion and asking your sportsbooks to exclude you. This page is the first part. It lists the iPhone apps we found that are built for sports bettors specifically, or that block sportsbooks as their main job, with the facts the App Store publishes and a one-line summary of what each listing says the app does. We make one of these apps. It is in the table, not ranked first.

How to read this table

Developer, release dates and rating counts come from the U.S. App Store, retrieved October 4, 2026, and are refreshed monthly. "What the listing says it does" is paraphrased from each app's own description; we have not tested every feature of every app. Most of these apps are free to download and sell a subscription inside; whether a feature needs one is on each App Store page. Rating counts under 50 mean an app is new or small, not bad — six of these nine apps launched in 2026. "Last update" matters more than usual here, because sportsbooks keep launching new apps and domains.

What the table shows

Two kinds of blocker. BetBlocker and Gamban block across your devices, and both are built so you can't undo them in a weak moment: BetBlocker's restriction lasts until the period you chose ends, and Gamban says it won't remove the block before your subscription period ends. The iPhone apps (Bet Block, CashOut, Benched, Betttr) use Apple's own blocking controls; Bet Block puts its settings behind a PIN, and CashOut runs unblocking on a built-in delay.

The 2026 wave is sports-specific. Five of the nine apps have "Quit Sports Betting" in their name, and all five launched in 2026. They talk about game days, parlays and sportsbook push notifications rather than gambling in general. Benched names the prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket among the apps it blocks; Gamban lists prediction markets as a category.

A counter is not a blocker. Bankroll, No Bet and i'm done. describe streaks, savings and urge tools but no blocking. They work best alongside a blocker.

The two things no app does for you. Self-exclusion is a bar you enroll in with your state program or with the operator; our self-exclusion directory lists the 37 statewide programs (36 states and the District of Columbia), the national NVSEP, and 76 operators that accept a written request, Kalshi and Polymarket included. And a written request to a sportsbook has to come from you: some apps (Betttr among them) write the email, but you press send.

Apps we left out

General sobriety counters, general screen-time blockers, and quit-gambling apps whose listings don't mention sports betting or blocking — those are in our quit-gambling apps roundup. Recovery-first apps are on our gambling recovery apps page, and blockers compared on cost and removability are on our free alternatives to Gamban page.

Frequently asked questions

I can't stop sports betting. What app should I use?

Start with a blocker, because willpower at 1 a.m. is not a plan: BetBlocker (free, cannot be removed until the period you chose ends), Gamban (subscription, multi-device), or an iPhone blocker built for sportsbooks such as Bet Block, CashOut, Benched or Betttr — which we make. Then self-exclude with your state and ask your sportsbooks to exclude you; the self-exclusion directory lists every route we have verified.

Is there a free app that blocks sportsbooks?

BetBlocker's listing says it is completely free, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases, and it is run by a registered charity. Many other blockers are free to download but say blocking needs a subscription; our free alternatives to Gamban page lists what each listing says.

Can an app self-exclude me from DraftKings or FanDuel?

No app can do it for you. DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, theScore Bet (formerly ESPN BET) and Fanatics Sportsbook each have a self-exclusion flow inside their own app, and your state program covers every operator licensed in your state. Our self-exclusion directory lists the in-app path for each, plus the operators that accept a written request.
