Betttr ("we," "us," "the app") is a recovery and wellness app for individuals working to stop gambling. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from the provider. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we receive only Apple's relay address.
Profile information. Information you choose to add to the app, such as your display name, username, sobriety start date, and avatar selection.
Activity data. Records of your in-app actions: streak progress, daily pledges, journal entries, gratitude entries, urge logs, panic-button activations, and grounding-exercise completions. This data is yours; we do not analyze it for advertising.
Community content (optional). If you choose to use the community features, posts and comments you create are visible to other authenticated Betttr users.
Diagnostic data. Anonymous app version, device model, and OS version, used solely to diagnose crashes and improve stability.
We do not collect: precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone audio (except video recordings you intentionally save in the app).
Advertising identifier. If you grant permission when iOS asks, we use Apple's advertising identifier to measure which marketing campaigns bring people to Betttr. You can decline, and you can change your mind at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining does not limit any feature of the app.
Website filtering (Gambling Blocker). If you turn on the Website Blocker, your device's DNS lookups are resolved by a filtering resolver we provision for you. See "Gambling Blocker" below.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your journal entries, urge logs, gratitude entries or AI Coach conversations with anyone.
We do use a marketing attribution service (see "Service Providers") to understand which advertisements bring people to Betttr. This tells us where our marketing worked; it does not involve your recovery content, and it does not build an advertising profile of you.
Betttr is built on a set of third-party services that process data on our behalf. Each is contractually required to protect your data and to use it only for the purpose we engage them for.
If you use the AI Coach feature, the messages you send are processed by a large-language-model provider in order to generate responses. We do not retain your AI Coach conversation transcripts beyond what is necessary to display your conversation history within the app. We do not use your conversations to train any model.
The Gambling Blocker is optional and every layer is turned on by you.
Website blocker. When enabled, Betttr installs a DNS configuration on your device and your DNS lookups — the requests your phone makes to find websites — are resolved by Control D, a third-party DNS provider, using a resolver we create for your account. Control D compares each lookup against a gambling-site blocklist and refuses the ones that match. This means your DNS lookups pass through Control D's service while the blocker is on. We do not receive, store or review your browsing history, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling. Control D processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement. You can switch the DNS configuration off at any time in iOS Settings, and the app will tell you when it has been switched off.
App blocker. Betttr uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to block apps you select. Apple designed this so that we cannot see which apps you chose — the selection never leaves your device in a form we can read, and we store only how many you picked.
Permanent lock. An optional commitment feature that prevents apps from being deleted while it is active. Betttr provides no way to undo it. Turning off Betttr's Screen Time permission in iOS Settings ends it.
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to user data is restricted by Row-Level Security policies that ensure each user can only read or modify their own records. We do not have access to your password.
You can:
If you reside in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability.
Betttr is rated 12+ on the App Store and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete their data.
Betttr is not a substitute for professional treatment. If you are in crisis, please contact the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700 (call or text, 24/7) or your local emergency services.
If we materially change how we handle your data, we will update this page and notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
