How to Block Gambling Apps on Android
Your Android phone can be a casino or a barrier. Here is exactly how to lock down gambling apps and sites so betting is no longer one tap away.
On Android, a bet is never more than a few taps away — which is exactly why locking your phone down matters so much. The good news is Android gives you several layers of control. Stack them together and reinstalling a sportsbook becomes a deliberate, high-friction decision instead of an impulse.
Step 1: Delete every gambling app
Uninstall all sportsbook, casino, poker, and prediction-market apps. Do not just hide them in a folder — remove them fully so getting back in requires a real reinstall.
Step 2: Restrict the Play Store so they cannot come back
- Open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Settings.
- Open Family, then Parental controls, and turn them on.
- Set a PIN and have someone you trust hold it — not you.
- Set the app rating limit low enough that gambling apps are blocked from being installed.
Step 3: Block gambling websites
Deleting apps is not enough if the browser is still open season. Use a blocking app or your provider's controls to restrict gambling sites. Google Family Link can filter browsing, and dedicated blockers let you add sportsbook URLs to a permanent blocklist that, ideally, someone else controls the password for.
Step 4: Turn on your bank's gambling block
Many banks and card issuers now offer a gambling transaction block that declines deposits to betting sites automatically. Some add a cooling-off delay before the block can be switched off, which buys you time when an urge hits.
Step 5: Kill the triggers
- Turn off notifications and unsubscribe from every sportsbook promo email.
- Mute or unfollow betting accounts, tipsters, and odds pages.
- Remove saved cards from Chrome, your browser, and Google Pay.
- Hand the master passwords to someone you trust so undoing the blocks is not a solo decision.
The strongest block is the one you cannot quietly remove at 11pm. Give the keys to someone else.
